It sucks. A lot. I’m so sick of this place I can’t see straight. Everyone in Lubbock hates culture. They’re not just ignorant to all things hip or cultural or non-traditional, they actively hate it. And I hate them for it. I can’t mention my favorite bands (Kings of Leon, Ben Harper, Phish, Bon Iver, Tokyo Police Club, Vampire Weekend, MGMT, Justice, etc.) without a blank stare followed by a notedly bored “Never heard of ‘em”. And the “Never heard of ‘em” really means “I only like top 40 music. I think you’re weird and possibly gay (which is the worst sin ever) for listening to music that’s not on our crappy Top 40 radio stations.”

I work with a legitimate racist, too. We built a house for a hispanic doctor. This piece of shit can’t get over the fact that there’s a “spic” (his word) out there who’s smarter than him. In his mind the color of that doctor’s skin means there is no way on earth he could possibly be smarter than a white man. What a reprehensible piece of shit. I spend a good portion of my day hoping for something terrible to happen to him.

I’m so sick of this place. I feel like a damn caged animal. I want out of this place so bad, but I’m stuck. I hate this crappy town. I hate every bit of it. I hate the same shitty traditional house they build over and over and over again. The only thing different in the houses in Lubbock is the square footage and the shade of builder beige on the walls.

I just want to scream. Do yourself a favor. Don’t ever come to Lubbock. Don’t visit. Don’t live here. Don’t even pass through. Just let this Godforsaken hell hole die and shrivel up.

well your problem lifeinlbk, besides the fact that you like mediocre at best bands, like kings of leon and vampire weekend, is that you don’t know anyone of culture here. i grew up in the hub city as some of us call it and if you know where to look there is plenty to do on the daily and plenty of ‘non-traditional’ things to do. i actively hate you as you can see by the time i’ve wasted writing this up. but no not really i dont care that strongly about it and i rarely defend my hometown as far as things go, but you just don’t have a clue what you’re talking about.

I would have maybe linked him to The Llano Idea or show schedules or something to enlighten. But yeah sure, bashing his taste and hating him for his unfortunate acquaintances works. Good job.

Not my chair, not my problem. i’m only here to please myself. besides the title to your blog is lubbock blows, yeah i get the irony too, but really? that’s what encompasses your feelings at this point? that’s the best you can do? seems like you would want to side with him, and also all you did was offer words of encouragement like his grandmother or something, offer solutions.
